This Earth Day, let's recognize that environmental justice and racial justice are deeply interconnected. Communities of color are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation and climate change. Standing against racism means standing for a world where everyone has clean air, safe water, and a healthy environment. Let's work together to create a more equitable and sustainable future for all. #EarthDay #EarthDay2024 #EnvironmentalJustice #RacialJustice #Equity #YWCACCC

Communities nationwide are observing April as Child Abuse Awareness and Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This annual observance serves as a reminder of the pervasive nature of these crimes and the need to break the silence surrounding them. Throughout the month, various organizations, advocacy groups, and community centers join forces to raise awareness, provide support to survivors, and educate the public on prevention strategies. From educational workshops and panel discussions to art exhibitions and candlelight vigils, a diverse range of initiatives have been organized to shed light on these often-hidden issues. To promote visibility on the issues surrounding sexual violence for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), YWCA Carlisle and Cumberland County enlisted help from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority to place ribbons on Downtown Carlisle streetlamps. The staff are also joining in awareness activities by wearing blue for Child Abuse Awareness and wearing teal for SAAM. Local events around the community include: April 17: Take Back the Night at Dickinson College HUB April 21 – 27: Crime Victims’ Rights Week April 22: Crime Victims’ Rights Week Rally at Capitol Rotunda April 24: Cumberland County Crime Victims’ Week Ceremony at the Old CC Courthouse in Carlisle, 6 – 8 pm These events and activities serve as a powerful reminder that behind every statistic lies a human being with a story that deserves to be heard and acknowledged. While progress has been made in raising awareness and fostering dialogue, it is evident that much work remains to be done. The prevalence of child abuse and sexual assault underscores the urgent need for continued advocacy, education, and support services to prevent future incidents and support survivors on their journey toward healing. We encourage community members like yourself to remain committed to the cause of ending child abuse and sexual assault. By standing together, speaking out against injustice, and supporting survivors, we can create a world where every individual feels safe, valued, and empowered to live free from harm.
