May is Maternal Mental Health Month, and it's a time to focus on the unique challenges that moms face. Being a mom can be tough and stressful. Sometimes, moms may feel sad, anxious, or even struggle with addiction. It’s not always easy to talk about, but it’s really important. Mental health is how we think and feel, and it's just as important as physical health. Moms need to take care of their minds just like they take care of their bodies. When moms are feeling good mentally, they can take better care of their kids and themselves. Addiction is when someone can't stop using something, even if it's causing them harm. This could be alcohol, drugs, or other things. Moms can face addiction, too, and it's tough to deal with. But there is help out there. It's okay to ask for help if you're feeling down or dealing with addiction. There are people who understand what you're going through and can support you. And if you know a mom who might be struggling, reach out and offer your support. A kind word can mean a lot. Remember, taking care of your mental health isn't just important for you—it's important for your kids, too. Make some time for yourself and seek help when you need it. Arkview Recovery can help—contact us today for more information.

The road from mental health struggles to addiction—or vice versa—is a well-traveled path, often marked by the desire to self-medicate or escape psychological pain. This relationship is a reminder that the mind and body are undoubtedly linked, and our approach to healing must be just as interconnected. For some, substances offer temporary relief from the symptoms of anxiety, depression, or trauma. For others, the cycle of addiction itself becomes a source of immense mental anguish. Whatever the starting point, the destination is often a place where mental health and substance abuse reinforce each other's grip on an individual's life. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health and addiction issues, remember that you're not alone, and help is available. May is World Mental Health Month, a time for reflection, education, and action toward better mental health. It's a reminder to pause and check in with ourselves and recognize when we might need help. Here’s a list of signs that it could be time to reach out for support: - Persistent sadness or irritability – If you’re feeling sad, hopeless, or irritated most of the time, it might be more than just a series of bad days. - Changes in sleep patterns – Too much or too little sleep can both be indicators that your mental health needs attention. - Unexplained physical symptoms – Often, mental stress manifests as physical discomfort or unexplained aches. - Withdrawal from social activities – Finding yourself consistently avoiding social interactions can be a sign of an underlying issue. - Change in performance at work or school – A significant drop in performance could be due to mental health struggles. - Substance use – An increase in substance use might be an attempt to cope with mental health issues. - Extreme mood swings – If your emotions are all over the place, it could be time to seek help. - Difficulty concentrating – Feeling scatterbrained regularly might signal mental overload. - Lack of interest in favorite activities – Losing interest in things you once loved is a red flag not to be ignored. - Overwhelming feelings of anxiety or panic – If anxious thoughts are invading your daily life, it's important to address them. - Changes in eating habits – Significant changes, whether eating a lot more or much less, can indicate mental distress. - Feeling worthless or guilty over minor issues – Persistent, harsh self-criticism is harmful to your mental health. - Thoughts of self-harm or suicide – If you’re experiencing these thoughts, seeking help is crucial. It's okay to not be okay. Remember, reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Whether it’s talking to a trusted friend or family member, connecting with a mental health professional, or finding support groups, there are many ways to take that first, brave step toward healing. Contact Arkview Recovery today to learn how we can help you overcome mental health and substance abuse issues. https://bit.ly/3BLIxmW

In today’s world, addiction treatment plans commonly include something called behavioral therapy. That is an umbrella term for therapy that asks you to play an active role in your recovery. There are multiple forms of this evidence-based treatment, each of which serves a unique purpose. For example, one important form of addiction therapy now entering wide use is dialectical behavior therapy or DBT. Dialectical behavior therapy helps you improve your ability to be self-aware and control your emotions. In turn, improvement in these areas makes it easier for you to achieve and maintain sobriety. It also helps you recover from the effects of major mental illness. Is DBT right for you? Arkview Recovery is based in Mechanicsburg, PA, which puts us in reach of people living throughout the state. Every day, we combine this convenience with top-quality treatments for addiction and mental illness. We know that dialectical behavior therapy may be crucial to your recovery. That’s why customized DBT plans form an essential part of our treatment options. For more information on how we can help, contact us today. On this World Mental Health Day, remember to take a moment for yourself. Your mental well-being is just as important as your physical health. Here are some tips for fostering good mental health: - Practice self-care – Make time for activities that bring you joy and relaxation. This could be anything from reading a book, taking a walk, or listening to music. Remember to prioritize your emotional needs. - Reach out for support – Don't be afraid to share your thoughts and feelings with loved ones or seek professional help if needed. It's okay to not be okay, and talking about it can help. - Take breaks from technology – Constantly being connected to our devices can be overwhelming and add to feelings of stress or anxiety. Give yourself some screen-free time each day. - Get enough sleep – Make sure you are getting at least 7-9 hours of sleep each night. Lack of sleep can impact your mood and ability to cope with daily stressors. - Practice mindfulness – Take a few minutes each day to be present in the moment and focus on your breathing. This can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. - Engage in physical activity – Regular exercise has been shown to improve mental well-being by releasing endorphins, reducing stress, and improving sleep quality. Find an activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your routine. Remember, taking care of your mental health is a journey, and it requires continuous effort. Don't be too hard on yourself, and know that it's okay to take breaks and prioritize your well-being. Let's break the stigma surrounding mental health and support each other in maintaining a healthy mind.
