From a young age, Emily Schmidt dreamed of opening a coffee shop. This dream stayed with her as she grew, married, and had three children.

?She began pursuing coffee shop ownership while she and her husband were also considering adoption. She was deeply impacted by the fact that many youth age out of foster care without a permanent family or a plan for their future.

?After much prayer, planning, and waiting, The Cracked Pot Coffee Shop was born. In May 2018, this faith-based, non-profit coffee shop opened, partnering with foster youth aging out of the system. In September 2024, The Cracked Pot opened its second location in downtown Carlisle.

?For over nine years, Emily, along with dedicated staff, volunteers, and community support, have worked hard and remained committed to creating opportunities, a sense of belonging and hope for many young adults who have aged out of the foster care system and may have otherwise been without support.

Join us for this members-only course including Hands Only CPR and Stop The Bleed training. Lunch will be provided while Penn State Health Holy Spirit Trauma Services presents on how the general public can manage life threatening bleeding until Emergency Medical Services or first responders arrive. This part of the course is a combination of lecture, video, demonstration, and hands on skill stations using direct pressure, gauze packing, dressings, and tourniquets.

Afterwards the group will take turns networking with the other attendees and learning Hands Only CPR from the American Heart Association - Pennsylvania. Be the difference for someone you love. In a cardiac arrest, every second counts and it can happen anywhere, often while at home, work, or play. The American Heart Association believes anyone can learn the simple steps to save a life, and everyone should.

This event is being provided FREE of charge by our generous partners: American Heart Association, Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center, and RETTEW. With catering being provided by Philly Pretzel Factory Camp Hill and Strictly Catering.
