Event Description: The Miranda K. Zeigler Memorial Foundation will be hosting the 3nd Annual Golfing For Smiles Outing benefit The Four Diamonds Fund and The Miranda K. Zeigler Memorial Foundation/"Miranda's Smile". We are asking for your help. Would you partner with us to help children and teens fighting for their lives against pediatric cancer at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital by coming out and enjoying a beautiful morning of golf, games, prizes, lunch and more or by becoming a sponsor? Zeigler Memorial Foundation was started in memory of Miranda because it was her wish that when she became a “cancer survivor” she wanted to help other teens with cancer at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital and Four Diamonds Fund. We wanted to honor her wishes and her vision by doing the work she wanted to do. First, she had many ideas of how the specific needs of teens could be met at the children’s hospital, teens are no longer children but not yet adults which poses its own special set of challenges. This was the special need she saw. Miranda was also a Four Diamonds Kid and she and her family were touched by the programs and staff that are provided to the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital by the Four Diamonds Fund. All of the proceeds raised by The Miranda K. Zeigler Memorial Foundation and The Four Diamonds Fund help teens and children right here at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. We invite you to come up alongside these young people who are fighting for their lives against pediatric cancer and support them on their cancer journey. You have an opportunity to do that by becoming a golfer or a sponsor at the 2011 Golfing For Smiles Charity Golf Outing. The mission of “Miranda’s Smile” is to bring “Smiles” to teens fighting cancer at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital and their families. Miranda’s Smile focuses on the unique struggles teens face during cancer treatment by bringing “Smiles” through mini-wishes, financial assistance for the teen and their family during inpatient stays including the long, difficult hospital stays for bone marrow transplants and by providing special gift basket events on the Pediatric Oncology Wing at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital and supporting other charities that assist children and teens with cancer. The mission of The Four Diamonds Fund is to conquer childhood cancer by assisting children treated at Penn State Children’s Hospital and their families through superior care, comprehensive support, and innovative research. The Four Diamonds Fund ensures that any expense associated with the care and treatment of children with cancer at Penn State Children’s Hospital will not become a financial burden for the patients and their families. Any medical expense not covered by insurance or other means is paid for by the Fund. **At Miranda’s Smile, all proceeds from fundraising events go directly to the teens and their families or to a charity that helps children and teens with cancer. There are no paid positions in the foundation. Proceeds from Golfing for Smiles are split 50/50 with The Four Diamonds Fund and you can find out more about them at www.fourdiamonds.org.
